I was
during one month in the hospital of Novi Sad. It’s a hospital with not
so many technological resources, but full of competent doctors.. I was
in the Internal Medicine Service, in the section of Hemathology, during
fifteen days.
During
this time I visited the patients of that floor every morning, and I was
in a laboratory where I saw different punctions and observed blood preparations
trough the microscope. Most of the patients of the floor were people with
different kinds of leukemia: a child with a Hodgkin’s lymphoma and a viric
pericarditis; a 50 year old woman with plasmacytoma and kidney failure;
an old man with a non-Hodking’s lymphoma...
I could
observe several clinical signs such as oedema, icteric, dermatological
signs...
We spoke
in English with doctors and other Medicine students, but with patients
we needed help in order to translate what they said.
In Pediatrics
Surgery I attended in different tecnics like artroscopy, Perthes disease
treatment...
I was
at the doctor’s examination room where I saw treatments with splints and
the x-ray images. Some days I observed postsurgery children in the floor.
The doctor of this section spoke English and Spanish.
The last
day of my practices, one doctor showed me the different parts of the hospital:
Endocrinology (where he talked about different types of insuline), Gastroenterology
(where he talked about cirrhosis and hepathytis), Nefrology (where he spoke
about dyalisis)...
